Mourinho Eyes City Raid: Kovacic a Target for Fenerbahce Revamp
Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is plotting a raid on his old rivals, Manchester City. According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Mourinho’s new club, Fenerbahce, are keen on signing Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
Kovacic, 30, only joined City last summer from Chelsea and played a key role in their Premier League title win. However, with three years remaining on his contract, a surprise exit could be on the cards. Fenerbahce, under Mourinho’s leadership, are looking to strengthen their midfield, and Kovacic’s experience and talent make him a tempting target.
Atletico Madrid Eye Alvarez Swap Deal:
Meanwhile, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing City’s Julian Alvarez. According to HITC, Atletico see the young Argentine as a key addition to their squad and have proposed a swap deal involving Joao Felix.
Felix, who previously spent time on loan at Chelsea, has struggled for consistent playing time at Atletico despite his hefty €127.2 million price tag in 2019. City, on the other hand, value Alvarez at £70 million. Alvarez, signed from River Plate in 2022, has primarily played back-up to the mighty Erling Haaland, limiting his starting opportunities.
Both Kovacic and Alvarez are under long-term contracts, making any potential deals complex. However, the transfer window can be unpredictable, and these rumors highlight the movement stirring around Manchester City’s midfield.
