Pep’s £21m Masterplan Backfired? Agent in Panic Mode

Latest Updates on Manchester City Transfers: Joao Cancelo and Guille Fernandez

Joao Cancelo’s Uncertain Future

Joao Cancelo, the Portuguese defender, finds himself at a crossroads, as he remains out of Pep Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City. After a falling out in 2022, Cancelo embarked on a six-month loan to Bayern Munich, followed by a season-long stint with Barcelona.

Despite making 42 appearances for the Spanish club across all competitions, his future remains murky. Barcelona was initially expected to secure a permanent deal for Cancelo at £21 million (€25m). However, according to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are hesitant to meet Manchester City’s demands due to their focus on other targets like Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

The primary sticking points are Cancelo’s transfer fee and substantial salary, which Barcelona aims to renegotiate. Super agent Jorge Mendes is actively working to find a resolution to this stalemate. In the meantime, Barcelona has alternatives on the right side of their defense, including academy standout Hector Fort and Julian Araujo, who has returned from a loan at Las Palmas. Jules Kounde is also considered a potential option for manager Hansi Flick.

Guille Fernandez Snubs Manchester City

In a separate transfer saga, young Barcelona prodigy Guille Fernandez has reportedly declined a move to Manchester City. According to SPORT, the 16-year-old sensation prefers to sign a new three-year contract with Barcelona, despite lucrative offers from City, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund.

Fernandez, who has been training with Barcelona’s first team under Flick during the pre-season, made headlines by breaking a record previously held by Yamine Lamal, debuting at the tender age of 15. Last season, he impressed with seven appearances for Barcelona’s B team and three outings for the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

City’s proposal promised a significant financial upgrade, yet Fernandez remains committed to continuing his development at Barcelona, emphasizing his desire to stay with his boyhood club.

As the transfer window heats up, the futures of both Cancelo and Fernandez will be closely watched by football enthusiasts and pundits alike.
