Manchester City has reached a settlement with the Premier League over repeated delays in kick-off times during their matches.
The club has “entered into a sanction agreement” with the Premier League, admitting to 22 violations of the league’s regulations over the past two seasons. As a result, they have been fined £2.09 million.
These breaches pertain to delays in kick-off and restart times, ranging from one minute to 2.45 minutes. The most significant delay occurred on the final day of the 2023/24 season against West Ham, when City needed a win to clinch the title ahead of Arsenal.
Of the 22 infractions, eight took place in the 2022/23 season, and 14 occurred in the 2023/24 season. The fines for these violations varied from £10,000 to £200,000 each.
According to the Premier League’s written explanation, City admitted to delaying the restart of games 22 times “without good reason.”
Manchester City has accepted the penalties and issued an apology for the breaches. Their statement emphasized that the club has reminded players and management of their responsibilities to ensure matches restart on time.
City has chosen not to provide any further comments.
This situation is separate from the club’s ongoing 115 charges for alleged breaches of financial regulations and their legal action against the Premier League regarding Associated Party Transaction rules.
