Manchester City are set for a busy summer, juggling both new signings and offloading fringe players from Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The club is eyeing at least three more deals before the transfer window closes. Txiki Begiristain is actively searching for potential replacements for Julian Alvarez and cover for Rodri, though the urgency is mitigated by internal options. Guardiola has emphasized a patient approach, aware that clubs are aware of City’s financial strength after raising £150m this summer.
In addition to these potential incomings, City is looking to move on three players currently on the periphery of the first team. These departures might not be permanent, but the focus is on finding them new challenges.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Kalvin Phillips is attracting interest from Premier League clubs Everton, Fulham, and Ipswich. Despite a brief stint as a center-back during the pre-season, Phillips was benched for the Community Shield and is unlikely to secure the playing time he desires at City.
Joao Cancelo, who didn’t even make the squad for the Wembley match, has expressed a desire to return to Barcelona, where he spent last season on loan. However, with the new management at Barcelona yet to make a move, City will seek a resolution before the transfer window closes. If a permanent deal isn’t feasible, a loan remains a likely option for Cancelo, who still has three years left on his contract and wears the No.7 shirt previously held by Raheem Sterling.
Issa Kabore is another player who could be on the move. After a strong performance with Luton Town last season, he has drawn interest from Tottenham. Kabore was on the bench for the Community Shield but didn’t participate in City’s pre-season tour. With right-back options like Rico Lewis, Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Manu Akanji available, City is well-covered in that position. Kabore, 23, seeks to continue playing regularly as he did last year.
