With the Premier League season kicking off this Friday, former Manchester United and Tottenham star Teddy Sheringham has shared his bold predictions for the campaign.
Sheringham is backing Pep Guardiola to secure a fifth consecutive Premier League title for Manchester City, despite fierce competition from Arsenal, who he predicts will fall just short again. After coming agonizingly close last season, Sheringham foresees more disappointment for Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Surprise package Aston Villa, who clinched an unexpected Champions League spot last term, are expected to prove their worth, with Sheringham predicting them to finish in third place. He also foresees Tottenham Hotspur, his former club, securing the fourth spot in the top four.
Sheringham commented, “I think Manchester City will win it again. Arsenal will be second again. Aston Villa will be third and Tottenham will be fourth.”
On Tottenham’s prospects, Sheringham said, “I believe a top-four finish is within reach for Spurs. While I’d love to see them challenge for the title, fourth place seems achievable. I see Liverpool potentially having a transitional season with their new manager.”
With Enzo Maresca stepping in to manage Chelsea, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, Sheringham is skeptical about their chances. “Chelsea might struggle again this season. I don’t expect them to challenge for the title or even the top four.”
Regarding Newcastle United, Sheringham acknowledged their potential but doubts their ability to break into the top four. “Newcastle has some good players, and not being in Europe might help, but I don’t see them making the top four.”
As for Manchester United, Sheringham pointed out, “There are too many question marks. They need to enhance their consistency to have a chance at securing a top-four finish.”
