Savinho made his debut for Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, starting on the wing, but his first appearance was cut short as he was substituted at halftime.
The €40m summer signing showcased his skills during the first 45 minutes, contributing to Erling Haaland’s goal that put City ahead 1-0. However, Savinho appeared to tweak a muscle during a counter-attack late in the half, leading to his early exit. After going down with no one around him, he received extended treatment on the field before limping off. Though he returned to the game for the final minutes of the first half, his discomfort persisted, prompting Pep Guardiola to bring on Phil Foden for the second half.
Savinho, who is City’s only summer signing so far, initially started on the left wing, where he assisted Bernardo Silva in setting up Haaland’s goal. He then switched to the right flank after the 18th-minute strike. The 20-year-old Brazilian joined City this summer for £21 million, potentially rising to £33.6 million, after an impressive loan spell at Girona, where he helped the team finish third in La Liga.
Reflecting on his move to City, Savinho said, “I’m a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot, to be happy, to play joyful football. I enjoy taking on defenders, making assists, scoring goals, and helping the team. My main characteristic, what I like the most, is being happy and getting fans up off their seats.”
