Gary Neville is predicting Manchester United will finish above Liverpool in the Premier League this season, citing a superior midfield as the key reason.
In a recent Sky Sports segment, Neville and Jamie Carragher debated their forecasts for the 2024/25 season. While Carragher believes Liverpool will secure third place, with United coming in fifth, Neville is confident the opposite will happen.
When pressed on why he believes United’s midfield outshines Liverpool’s, Neville struggled to pinpoint exact advantages but stated, “I wouldn’t say they were superior in a specific area. Liverpool has better forwards. However, in midfield, if you compare Manchester United’s players, they have more depth.”
Neville continued, “Liverpool’s midfield trio—Endo, Szoboszlai, and Mac Allister—has performed well, but I’m skeptical about their consistency throughout the season.” He argued that United’s midfield has more depth with players like Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and new additions like Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo.
Carragher quickly interjected, pointing out that midfield was United’s major issue last season. Neville countered by emphasizing the depth and potential of United’s midfield options.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have opted against bolstering their midfield further after missing out on Martin Zubimendi, while United are eyeing Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte as a potential addition.
