Despite his recent retirement from international football, Gundogan’s future at Barcelona is uncertain under new manager Hansi Flick, with reports suggesting he might not be in Flick’s plans. The Manchester Evening News reports that City is considering bringing Gundogan back before the transfer window closes on August 30.
While Gundogan’s stance on the potential move remains unclear, his wife, Sara, has already hinted at her feelings. In an earlier interview with the Daily Mail, she admitted that she misses Manchester, despite initially criticizing the city’s dining scene. Sara shared, “I kind of miss Manchester now,” reflecting on how she had built a life and routine there, eventually making close friends.
Her earlier comments in 2022 about Manchester’s food scene sparked a reaction from local chefs, who encouraged her to explore beyond “Instagrammable spots.” Despite those initial frustrations, Sara later found happiness in the city, making it difficult to leave when her husband transferred to Barcelona.
During his time with Barcelona, Gundogan made 51 appearances, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists. However, he now faces tough competition in a crowded midfield, including players like Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Pedri, which could open the door for a potential return to the Etihad.
