Man United’s Injury Crisis Deepens: Latest Updates on Mount, Shaw, and More After Brighton Defeat
Manchester United’s injury woes continue to mount, with Mason Mount being the latest player sidelined after the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton. This setback adds to an already troubling list of injuries plaguing Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Mount, who was limited to just 20 appearances in his debut season at Old Trafford due to two separate injury spells, had to be substituted during the Brighton match after raising concerns about a potential issue. Erik ten Hag confirmed the substitution was precautionary, stating, “It was forced. He mentioned an issue, and I didn’t want to take a risk.”
As United’s season kicks off, they are already missing key players, including summer signing Leny Yoro, who impressed in pre-season but is now out with a foot injury until November 2024. Ten Hag remains hopeful, saying, “I’m sure he [Yoro] will be returning as soon as possible to support the team and help us win games and trophies.”
Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw are also on the injury list. Shaw is recovering from a calf injury, with a return anticipated after the international break in September. The club’s statement on Shaw noted, “Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training.”
Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia and Hojlund are unavailable, with Hojlund expected to return in September as well. Ten Hag provided updates, saying, “Tyrell Malacia, Rasmus Hojlund—they’re not available. Luke Shaw, of course, is out too.”
Victor Lindelof, dealing with a toe injury, is another concern for United. His return is hoped to be by September 1, just in time for the crucial match against Liverpool.
With multiple first-team players sidelined, United’s injury list is becoming a significant concern as they navigate the early stages of the Premier League season.
