San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest during an attempted robbery on Saturday, was discharged from the hospital on Sunday afternoon, the team announced.
“San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital this afternoon as he continues to recover from a bullet wound to his chest,” the team said in a statement. “He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors, and staff at San Francisco General Hospital.”
Prior to his release, Pearsall had been listed in “serious but stable condition,” according to the team.
Pearsall’s mother, Erin, shared on social media Sunday that the bullet had entered her son’s chest and exited through his back, fortunately missing vital organs.
“He is extremely lucky,” Erin Pearsall wrote, via The Athletic’s David Lombardi. “…He is in good spirits right now.”
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon in Union Square, San Francisco, where Pearsall was shot during an attempted robbery. San Francisco Police reported that officers found Pearsall and another man injured at approximately 3:37 p.m. PT. Both men received immediate medical attention and were transported to San Francisco General Hospital for further treatment.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that one of the injured individuals had attempted to rob Pearsall. The suspect was apprehended, and charges are pending.
Pearsall, 23, was the 49ers’ 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
