Cristiano Ronaldo has his sights set on a big move for Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Kevin De Bruyne, hoping to lure him to Al-Nassr with an eye-watering £1 million-a-week offer.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is urging Al-Nassr’s Saudi bosses to act fast, believing De Bruyne would be the final piece to transform the Riyadh-based club into the dominant force in the Saudi Pro League. With Manchester City yet to offer the 33-year-old a new contract, Ronaldo sees this as the perfect opportunity for his club to make a move.
De Bruyne’s current deal with City ends next summer, and while the Premier League champions are expected to initiate contract talks, any extension would likely involve a substantial pay cut from his current £375,000-a-week wage. Ronaldo, however, feels Al-Nassr should spare no expense and offer De Bruyne a financial package he simply can’t refuse.
Last summer, Saudi clubs made their intentions clear, testing the waters for a possible move, but De Bruyne opted to stay put at City. Despite the temptation, the Belgian playmaker decided to stay in Manchester, but the lucrative prospects in Saudi Arabia still remain on the table.
In a candid interview in July, De Bruyne addressed the rumors, admitting, “I’ve read a lot of headlines, but I haven’t spoken to anyone. I’m under contract with City for another year, and I assume there will be talks soon. If not, I’ll have to look elsewhere, but it’s hard to predict what will happen.”
As for the prospect of a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia, De Bruyne acknowledged the allure but emphasized that financial motives aren’t his main driver. “Look, I already have more than enough money. If a crazy offer comes in later, that’s not for me—it’s for my family, friends, and future generations.”
De Bruyne’s future remains uncertain as he continues to recover from a series of injuries. After missing the first five months of last season with a serious hamstring issue, he is once again sidelined following a groin injury suffered during City’s Champions League final against Inter Milan.
With De Bruyne’s contract winding down and his fitness still in question, the possibility of a fresh start in Saudi Arabia—guided by Ronaldo’s influence—looms large. Whether City can convince their star playmaker to stay or Al-Nassr can make him an offer he can’t refuse will be one of next summer’s major footballing storylines.
