Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has addressed rumors about his future after featuring twice this season, dismissing any speculation of a potential exit despite limited playing time.
Ortega has proven to be more than just a capable backup for Ederson, showcasing his skills and value to the team. Notably, his crucial save against Tottenham’s Son Heung-min in the final moments of City’s penultimate league match last season has been credited as a pivotal moment in their title-winning campaign. Although he had initially hesitated over a new contract, Ortega signed an extension this summer, committing to the club until 2026.
Despite Pep Guardiola’s clear declaration that Ederson remains the first-choice goalkeeper, Ortega has still managed to get game time, appearing in both the Champions League and Carabao Cup this season. Although rumors of a move away persist, Ortega has expressed his satisfaction with life at Manchester City and the opportunities he’s been given.
In an interview with Sky Germany, Ortega said, “Still in Manchester. I feel very comfortable there. At the moment, there is little reason to leave Manchester again.”
He also highlighted the amount of game time he’s received since joining City: “I have now played 37 [36] competitive games in the last two years – that’s not a number for a typical number two. I get a lot of appreciation, even if it doesn’t always come across like that in the games.”
For now, Ortega seems content to stay at City and continue contributing whenever called upon.
