“Chelsea Sparks Outrage by Benching Rising Star Until He Agrees to New Contract!”

Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong has reportedly been sidelined from both the first team and development squad until he commits to a new contract, according to The Athletic.

Acheampong, a highly-rated 18-year-old right-back, has already made a senior appearance for Chelsea, featuring for 27 minutes under Enzo Maresca in the Carabao Cup clash against Barrow. However, despite his potential, the club has taken a firm stance, freezing him out until he agrees to extend his stay.

The talented defender is said to be attracting interest from clubs abroad, with recent reports even linking him to a surprise move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Frozen Out Until a New Deal is Signed

Acheampong faces stiff competition at Chelsea, particularly in his position, with Reece James and Malo Gusto both established as top-quality right-backs. Despite this, Acheampong had expressed readiness to seize any first-team opportunities that come his way.

While there were expectations that he might feature more in cup competitions this season, Acheampong has been absent from matchday squads since his appearance against Barrow. According to The Athletic, the club has now made it clear he won’t feature for either the first team or the development squad until he signs a new deal.

Though his current contract runs until 2026, talks over a new long-term agreement have stalled, with nothing finalized yet. Acheampong’s lack of playing time extends to the U21s as well. Despite starting four of their first five games this season, he has been notably absent from recent fixtures, including their Premier League Cup game against Bournemouth on Monday night.

Acheampong made his Premier League debut last season in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge and was part of the pre-season tour to America. However, his future now appears uncertain as Chelsea enforces a strict policy, similar to how they handled contract situations with Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount.

Given the competition for his position, it’s understandable that Acheampong might be questioning his pathway at the club. Fans will be hoping this situation doesn’t lead to another bitter departure, as Chelsea’s hardline approach could stir discontent among supporters.
