Erling Haaland’s potential move to Spain is gaining momentum, with new reports suggesting the Manchester City goal machine is now open to joining Real Madrid.
Since arriving at City in 2022, the 24-year-old Norwegian has been a sensation, helping the club win the treble and shattering numerous records with an astonishing 101 goals in 109 appearances. However, Haaland’s incredible form hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Real Madrid has long had their eye on him. Barcelona has also been keeping tabs on City’s star striker.
According to fresh reports from Sky Sports, Haaland has communicated his interest in joining the Real Madrid “project” to his entourage. His contract with City includes a €150 million (£125m) release clause, expiring in 2027, which could play into Madrid’s hands. If City were to lose Haaland next summer, the report suggests they would target Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres as a potential replacement.
Adding to City’s concern, Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, has openly hinted that his son is interested in playing for multiple clubs across Europe’s top leagues. In the documentary “Haaland: The Big Decision,” he revealed: “I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. He could stay at City for three or four years at most… then Spain, Italy, France, right?”
The speculation surrounding Haaland isn’t new. Similar rumors followed him during his time at Borussia Dortmund, where former sporting director Sebastian Kehl admitted the constant attention became a “burden” for the club. Kehl told Sport Bild, “In the end, he became a burden on the dressing room, the club, and the whole environment. It was the right time for both parties to part ways.”
As the chatter around Haaland’s future intensifies, City fans are left wondering just how big a blow his departure would be.
