Oscar Bobb’s Injury Update: Focusing on Strength Over Speed in Return to Manchester City
Manchester City forward Oscar Bobb has provided an update on his recovery after suffering a fractured leg just before the new season. Despite the tough blow, City are giving Bobb all the time he needs to fully heal, even if it means a longer-than-expected return to action.
Bobb’s injury came at a particularly unfortunate time, just a week before the Premier League kicked off, after an impressive summer with City. He had dazzled on the club’s pre-season tour and set up a goal in the Community Shield against Manchester United at Wembley. But a training ground accident before City’s opener against Chelsea has sidelined him until the New Year.
While initial hopes were for a January return, manager Pep Guardiola has hinted that Bobb’s recovery could stretch into February. Nevertheless, City are in no rush, having opted not to sign a replacement for the Norwegian winger, with plans for him to play a pivotal role in the second half of the season.
In his first comments since the injury, Bobb revealed that he has maintained a positive mindset throughout his recovery, despite the disappointment of the timing.
“It’s been just over two months now and we knew it was a long injury, so I’m just focusing on getting a bit better every day and getting back,” Bobb told The National, emphasizing that he’s more concerned with returning in peak condition than rushing back.
“Not as soon as possible, but as strong as possible,” he added, showing a mature approach to his recovery. Despite the injury, Bobb has chosen to view it not as a setback, but as a “pause,” drawing inspiration from friends who’ve overcome similar challenges.
“I didn’t think of it as that bad just because I’ve seen loads of my friends get big injuries, and a lot of them have come back stronger,” he said.
Bobb’s main focus remains on regaining full fitness, but he’s already looking ahead to contributing even more in the second half of the season. “[My aim is] getting back in good shape. And then hopefully pushing on from that and getting even more games than I got last year—scoring goals, getting assists, and playing in the important games.”
As City fans await Bobb’s return, it’s clear the young talent is determined to come back stronger and make an even bigger impact for the reigning champions.
