Erling Haaland has become the center of a transfer obsession from FC Barcelona, according to recent reports. Although the 24-year-old striker is reportedly happy with his life and performances at the Etihad Stadium, his prominence in world football fuels ongoing speculation about potential moves away from Manchester City in the near future.
Rumors about Haaland’s future have persisted since his arrival at Manchester City in 2022, especially after his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, revealed that Haaland’s camp sees value in him experiencing challenges at several top European clubs. With Haaland having already secured every major trophy with City in just two-and-a-half seasons, there’s growing curiosity about whether he might seek a new challenge sooner than anticipated.
For now, both Manchester City and Haaland are focused on securing a new agreement to extend his stay at the Etihad. Improved contract terms are a priority for both sides, yet speculation about Haaland’s next career steps shows no signs of slowing down.
David Bernabeu, a journalist on Sport’s La Possession show, recently disclosed that Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta has made Erling Haaland his “main obsession.” Meanwhile, City’s leadership is intensifying efforts to renew the striker’s contract. Bernabeu stated, “The main obsession of the president, I’ve always told you, is Erling Haaland. If it’s an obsession, it doesn’t mean he can bring him. But it’s an obsession. So, it’s the piece that marks all the movements.”
Bernabeu continued, “I don’t think Barça will do anything until they see where this piece is going. I’m telling you; City is moving.” He noted that Ferran Soriano, Manchester City’s CEO, recently visited Norway to discuss Haaland’s renewal. “A few weeks ago, Ferran Soriano was in Norway… negotiating with Haaland and his environment the renewal for two more seasons. I think Haaland ends his contract in 2027. They want to put him in for two more years and without a release clause.”
Currently, Haaland’s contract reportedly includes a release clause, although the exact amount remains undisclosed.
How much progress Manchester City can make on Haaland’s renewal before the season ends remains uncertain. Leading these contract talks from City’s side is Txiki Begiristain, who will continue in his role until next summer when he’ll be succeeded by Hugo Viana from Sporting.
