Pep Guardiola Linked with Brazil Role Amid Manchester City Contract Talks
Pep Guardiola may be considering a future with the Brazilian national team, according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson suggested it is highly likely Guardiola has spoken with Brazil about taking over as their manager if he decides to leave the Etihad.
Reports from The Athletic on 8 November revealed that the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has made multiple attempts this year to recruit Guardiola. CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, however, has publicly denied making contact with the City boss, whose current contract expires in June 2025.
Adding to the speculation is the impending departure of Man City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, a key figure in Guardiola’s tenure, who has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Despite this, Football Insider recently reported that Guardiola is close to agreeing a one-year contract extension with City. The deal, which is said to be “99 per cent done,” follows a fresh round of negotiations that appear to have brought both parties closer to an agreement.
Brazil: A Real Option for Guardiola?

Borson emphasized Brazil remains a genuine possibility for Guardiola should he decide to step away from City.
“We know he has had conversations with them before,” Borson said. “I think they are one of the options should he end up leaving City. Clearly, being out of contract will make things easier—there would be no compensation to pay, so it would just be a negotiation between him and Brazil.”
The timing of any potential decision has drawn attention, especially during the international break. Borson noted that this period would typically be when major announcements, like a contract extension with City, would take place.
“This would be the time when you’d expect Guardiola, if he was staying at City, to make it official,” Borson added. “We haven’t heard anything yet, so the speculation continues.”
Guardiola’s Next Move
While a move to Brazil would undoubtedly be a monumental shift, Borson remains confident the story holds weight.
“He definitely has spoken to Brazil,” Borson concluded. “The question is whether it happens now or later, but the interest is real, and it’s a possibility after City.”

For now, the focus remains on Guardiola’s immediate future at Manchester City, but the allure of managing one of football’s most iconic national teams continues to linger in the background.
