James McAtee Responds to Eredivisie Transfer Links Amid Limited Manchester City Opportunities
James McAtee has sparked interest with his recent comments on potential transfer links to Dutch giants Ajax and Feyenoord during an interview, amid limited game time at Manchester City this season.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who scored his first senior goal for City this season, has struggled to secure regular opportunities under Pep Guardiola. After two productive loan spells at Sheffield United, where he played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League, McAtee returned to City. However, his minutes on the pitch have fallen short of expectations, leading to growing speculation about his future.
While Premier League clubs such as West Ham United and Fulham have reportedly shown interest, McAtee was directly asked about the possibility of a move to the Eredivisie during the international break.
Speaking to Voetbal Primeur, as relayed by Sport Witness, McAtee acknowledged the stature of clubs like Ajax and Feyenoord. “I don’t know. I’ve seen them play. They are very big clubs and play good football,” he said.
When asked if such a move would help him take the next step in his career, McAtee responded with a smile: “I’m not too sure, mate. I don’t know.”
As City recover from a string of injuries that contributed to four consecutive defeats before the international break, McAtee’s chances for more playing time remain uncertain. With the Carabao Cup campaign already over following their exit to Tottenham, McAtee may have to wait until the FA Cup resumes in January for significant opportunities.
In the meantime, Manchester City are preparing to face Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening. The match will mark Rodri’s homecoming after his historic Ballon d’Or triumph, adding extra excitement to the Premier League clash.
