Manchester City Receive Injury Boosts Ahead of Feyenoord Clash, but John Stones Faces Fresh Setback
Manchester City’s injury crisis is beginning to ease with Ruben Dias and Jeremy Doku returning to training, but the absence of John Stones raises concerns ahead of their crucial Champions League clash with Feyenoord.
Stones, who was substituted at halftime during City’s 4-0 loss to Tottenham, appears to be facing another setback. Pep Guardiola confirmed after the Spurs defeat that Stones’ replacement was injury-related rather than tactical. “John feels good but has to leave after 45 minutes,” Guardiola explained, adding on Monday, “John can play but only for 45 minutes, and you need rhythm without training.” Stones’ absence from training later that day suggests his recovery has stalled.
The England international has endured a frustrating season, with a series of minor injuries limiting him to just 11 appearances, only seven of which were starts. He has missed eight matches as either an unused substitute or due to injury. With Stones likely unavailable against Feyenoord, City’s defensive options will rely heavily on the returning Dias.
The return of Dias and Doku is a welcome relief for Guardiola, who has been navigating a challenging period with several key players sidelined. Additionally, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, who featured in City’s last Champions League outing, trained with the first team and could be included in the squad again.
However, long-term absences continue to include Rodri and Oscar Bobb, while Mateo Kovacic remains out for a month. Guardiola will also be managing the fitness levels of several first-team players who are yet to regain full match sharpness.
City’s Training Squad for Feyenoord Clash:
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Ortega, Carson
Defenders: Ake, Akanji, Dias, Walker, Lewis, Gvardiol, Simpson-Pusey, Naylor, Wilson-Esbrand
Midfielders: Gundogan, Bernardo, Nunes, De Bruyne, Foden, Grealish
Forwards: Doku, Savinho, McAtee, O’Reilly, Wright, Haaland
With a pivotal week ahead, including a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, Guardiola will be hoping these injury returns can reignite City’s form.
