Pep Guardiola Reveals Self-Inflicted Injury After Manchester City’s Shocking Collapse Against Feyenoord
Manchester City suffered another setback in their Champions League campaign on Tuesday evening, drawing 3-3 against Feyenoord after leading 3-0. Despite their dominant performance for much of the match, Pep Guardiola saw his side inexplicably fall apart in the final 15 minutes, extending their winless streak to six games.
However, it wasn’t just the result that grabbed attention; Guardiola appeared to have suffered cuts to his face during the game. When questioned about the injuries, the City manager humorously explained that they were self-inflicted. “My finger, here [points to nose]. My nail. I want to harm myself,” he joked, referring to the visible scratches on his nose and head.
A member of the press, sensing the manager’s frustration, tried to console him, offering reassurance as he exited the press conference, saying, “It will be okay.“
With the loss, City’s Champions League qualification is now at risk, and their upcoming fixture against Liverpool at Anfield looms large. Guardiola, however, remains focused on turning things around. He commented, “Three episodes didn’t allow us to win, what we needed. For many, many reasons, not just for the terms of qualification and getting the points to go through.“
The manager emphasized that the performance was good for much of the match, noting, “We scored three, we could have scored more, we did everything but at the end, we gave away especially the first one, and after we are not stable enough to do it.” He continued to stress that the problem wasn’t a lack of effort but a failure to manage key moments, particularly in the final stages. “It’s not about not running, no commitment, nothing like that but in football, you have to do it in certain moments.“
Looking ahead, Guardiola reflected on the need to regroup for the trip to Liverpool: “Rest one or two days and prepare for Anfield.“
Should City lose to Arne Slot’s side this weekend, they could find themselves 11 points adrift in the Premier League title race. After facing Liverpool, City will host Nottingham Forest before traveling to Crystal Palace.
