Man City and Chelsea Discover Pot Placement for 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Manchester City and Chelsea have learned their pot assignments ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup draw, which will take place in Miami on Thursday at 6 PM GMT.

This year’s expanded 32-team tournament will run from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States. The competition features teams from all six continental confederations.

City and Chelsea Earn Their Spots

Manchester City secured their place as 2023 Champions League winners, while Chelsea qualified by winning the 2021 Champions League.

City, led by Pep Guardiola, have been placed in Pot 1, joining elite clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Flamengo, Palmeiras, River Plate, and Fluminense.

Meanwhile, Chelsea find themselves in Pot 2, alongside Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Porto, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Juventus, and Red Bull Salzburg.

Tournament Format and Key Highlights

The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four, with each team playing the others in their group once. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages.

FIFA confirmed that no group can feature more than one team from the same confederation, except for UEFA clubs. Consequently, four of the eight groups will feature two European teams.

Special Mention: Inter Miami

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will open the tournament on June 15, 2025, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. They are included in Pot 4 alongside clubs like Seattle Sounders and Urawa Red Diamonds.


Clubs Expected to Bring Strongest Squads

FIFA has mandated that all participating clubs must field their strongest squads, emphasizing the tournament’s prestige and competitive integrity.
