Ohio State Loses Another Five-Star QB as Devin Brown Enters Transfer Portal
For the second consecutive year, Ohio State is parting ways with a five-star quarterback via the transfer portal. Following Kyle McCord’s departure last year to make way for Will Howard, this year it’s Devin Brown, another highly-touted recruit, opting to transfer.
Devin Brown’s Announcement
The junior quarterback from Arizona shared the news on his X profile, confirming his decision to enter the portal. However, Brown made it clear he plans to stay with the Buckeyes through the College Football Playoff—a notable commitment, as many players leave their teams before postseason games, leaving programs shorthanded.
This loyalty could play a key role in Ohio State’s upcoming CFP run. The Buckeyes, currently 10-2, secured the No. 8 seed and are set to host Tennessee in the first round of the playoff on Dec. 21.
Brown’s Career with the Buckeyes
Over his career at Ohio State, Brown has seen limited action. He has completed 26 of 47 passes for 325 yards, throwing three touchdowns and one interception. Additionally, he has one career rushing touchdown.
While Brown’s departure marks the end of his chapter with Ohio State, it might open doors for other talented players.
What’s Next for Ohio State?
Brown’s transfer could signal a significant opportunity for Julian Sayin, another five-star quarterback. Sayin, who initially committed to Alabama, transferred to Ohio State and is poised to compete for the starting job in 2025.
Despite these roster changes, Ohio State remains focused on the present. With their playoff berth and a chance to compete for the national championship, the Buckeyes have a big challenge ahead.
As the Dec. 21 showdown with Tennessee approaches, Devin Brown‘s decision to stay with the team underscores his commitment to finishing the season strong, even as he prepares for the next step in his football career.
