Crushing Blow: Lions’ Super Bowl Dreams Dwindle as Montgomery, McNeill, and Dorsey Out for Season

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The injury-riddled Detroit Lions suffered yet another wave of setbacks following their 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, a game that ended their franchise-record 11-game winning streak.

Head coach Dan Campbell addressed the mounting injuries on Monday, offering little sympathy for the situation.

Nobody cares,” Campbell said bluntly. “Nobody is going to give us a pass, or put an asterisk next to your record.”

Campbell confirmed that running back David Montgomery and defensive tackle Alim McNeill will require season-ending knee surgeries after suffering significant injuries during the loss. On top of that, cornerback Khalil Dorsey had season-ending surgery Sunday night after breaking his leg against Buffalo.

To make matters worse, cornerback Carlton Davis III sustained a jaw injury and will be out indefinitely. “Not sure how long that’s going to be, I just know in the immediate future, I don’t see it,” Campbell said.

The Lions’ injury woes are now reaching alarming levels. With these latest losses, Detroit’s roster has now seen over 20 players placed on injured reserve, including six defensive starters from their Week 1 lineup. That group notably includes star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who broke his leg two months ago in a game against Dallas.

Despite the adversity, the Lions (12-2) had strung together 11 consecutive wins before falling to Buffalo, proving their resilience amidst a season riddled with injuries. However, with the playoffs looming, Detroit’s depth will be put to the ultimate test.
