LIVE UPDATE: DANNY STUTSMAN NAMED CONSENSUS ALL-AMERICAN
The accolades keep rolling in for Danny Stutsman, as the Oklahoma Sooners senior linebacker has been officially named a consensus All-American by the NCAA. This prestigious honor cements Stutsman’s legacy as one of the greatest linebackers in program history.
To earn consensus All-American status, a player must receive first-team honors from at least two of the NCAA’s five recognized selectors: AFCA, AP, FWAA, Sporting News, and Walter Camp Foundation. Stutsman not only achieved this but received recognition from all five selectors, earning first-team honors from the Walter Camp Foundation and AFCA, and second-team honors from AP, FWAA, and Sporting News.
He also distinguished himself as a Butkus Award finalist and was a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection by both the league’s coaches and media.
A Remarkable Career in Norman
Stutsman’s four years at Oklahoma were marked by perseverance, growth, and leadership. After committing to stay with the Sooners under head coach Brent Venables, following the departures of Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch, Stutsman became a cornerstone of Venables’ defensive rebuild.
In his final season, Stutsman started all 12 games at middle linebacker, leading the team with 109 tackles, ranking fourth in the SEC and 24th nationally. His averages of 9.1 tackles per game placed him fourth in the SEC and 22nd nationally. Stutsman also contributed 8.0 tackles for loss, a sack, and three quarterback hurries in 2024.
Over his career, Stutsman played in 47 games, starting the last 37. He totaled 376 tackles, placing ninth in Oklahoma history, and recorded 36.0 tackles for loss (tied for fifth among OU inside linebackers), 8.0 sacks, and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Impressively, he notched over 100 tackles in three consecutive seasons.
Legacy of Greatness
Stutsman becomes the 83rd consensus All-American in Oklahoma’s storied history, the first since wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in 2019, and the first linebacker since Curtis Lofton in 2007. He is the ninth linebacker in program history to achieve this honor, contributing to Oklahoma’s sixth-place national ranking with 83 all-time consensus All-Americans.
Oklahoma also leads the nation with 81 consensus All-Americans since 1950 and has produced 31 consensus All-Americans since 2000, tied with Ohio State for second place, behind Alabama.
A Fitting Finale
Stutsman’s final performance at Owen Field was nothing short of heroic, leading the Sooners to an upset victory over Alabama with a relentless defensive effort that shut down QB Jalen Milroe.
While Stutsman won’t suit up for Oklahoma’s Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl matchup against Navy, as he prepares for the 2025 NFL Draft, his contributions to the program will not soon be forgotten.
Danny Stutsman’s legacy as a Sooner is etched in history, and his impact on the field and in the locker room will resonate for years to come.
