As 2024 winds down, Corey LaJoie, a recognizable name in the NASCAR Cup Series, finds himself without a confirmed ride for 2025. Despite a career spanning nearly a decade, the veteran driver faces uncertain prospects after his four-year stint with Spire Motorsports came to a tumultuous end. Who Is Corey LaJoie?

The LaJoie name carries weight in motorsports. Corey is the son of Randy LaJoie, a two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion (now Xfinity Series) in 1996 and 1997, and the grandson of Don LaJoie, a Hall of Fame inductee in the New England Auto Racing scene. Born in Concord, North Carolina, Corey LaJoie was immersed in racing from a young age, starting with karting in 1996.

LaJoie’s early career showcased promise, with victories in INEX Bandolero Series and Legends car events, and wins in the ARCA Menards Series. However, his transition to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2014 was rocky. Crashes plagued his first season, and though he returned in 2016, his tenure with teams like BK Racing and Go Fas Racing brought limited success.

Spire Motorsports and the Struggles

LaJoie joined Spire Motorsports in 2021, a young team looking to establish itself in NASCAR. While he played a key role in its development, the results on the track didn’t meet expectations. Over four years, LaJoie achieved only four top-five finishes and six top-tens.
