Live Feed: Kyle Larson’s Son Cooper Joins the Racing Legacy While Larson Eyes Redemption in 2025
The Larson family seems to be a motorsport powerhouse, and now the next generation is stepping into the spotlight. Kyle Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, has long proven his versatility on the track. But it seems his youngest son, Cooper, has caught the racing bug too, as seen in a heartwarming moment shared by his mother, Katelyn Larson.
Cooper Larson Follows in His Father’s Footsteps
In preparation for the Tulsa Shootout and the Chili Bowl Nationals, Kyle Larson has been fine-tuning his sprint car. However, it’s not just dad in the garage—young Cooper has joined in. In an Instagram story, Katelyn Larson shared a photo of Cooper diligently working on Kyle’s car, captioned, “Working hard!” Fans couldn’t get enough of this glimpse into Cooper’s budding interest in racing.
It’s no surprise that Cooper is drawn to motorsports, considering his older brother, Owen Larson, is already competing in the Tulsa Shootout alongside their father. Karting holds a special place in the Larson family story, as it’s how Kyle himself began his career. His dad, Mike Larson, once spent $1,200 on a kart, secretly kickstarting Kyle’s racing journey behind his mother’s back.
As Mike Larson recalled, the kart had a simple design and featured a handmade No. 1. “The big No. 1 on top of the wing—I just went to the hobby store and bought two sheets of vinyl so I could cut out the number. It was because No. 1 was the simplest number to make,” he explained.
Perhaps young Cooper will fulfill his grandpa’s dream of mastering kart mechanics. Starting at just two years old, he’s miles ahead of his dad, who didn’t begin racing until age seven.
Kyle Larson’s Redemption Mission for 2025
While his family is busy in the garage and on the track, Kyle Larson is preparing for his own redemption arc in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series. Larson was one of the best drivers in 2024, boasting the most wins of the season. Yet, the playoff format denied him the championship. Instead, Joey Logano emerged victorious, outpacing Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron in the final stretch.
The upcoming season offers Larson a clean slate to reassert dominance with Hendrick Motorsports. All eyes are on the iconic Daytona 500, a race where Larson has started on pole but has yet to claim victory. Before the Cup Series kicks off, he’ll focus on the Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl Nationals, where he’s set to compete against heavyweights like Christopher Bell and Kyle Busch.
A Legacy at the Chili Bowl Nationals
Kyle Larson’s record at the Chili Bowl Nationals speaks for itself, with back-to-back wins in 2020 and 2021, tying him with NASCAR legend Tony Stewart. However, he still trails Christopher Bell, who has three wins, and the all-time leader Sammy Swindell, with five victories.
This year, Larson has his sights set on surpassing Bell and edging closer to the top of the Chili Bowl record books. “The Chili Bowl is special, and I want to keep adding to my legacy here,” Larson remarked earlier in the season.
As the motorsport world awaits the return of the #5 car to NASCAR, the Larson family’s garage offers a heartwarming reminder of racing’s generational magic. With Cooper already tinkering and Owen competing, the Larson legacy is just getting started. And with Kyle Larson aiming for both Chili Bowl glory and a second Cup Series title, 2025 might just be the year to watch.
