“Former FBS Star QB Joins HBCU Powerhouse in Championship Comeback Bid”

Live Update: South Carolina State Turns to Transfer QB Amari Jones to Lead New Era

South Carolina State University, a pillar of HBCU football, is gearing up for a fresh chapter with transfer quarterback Amari Jones at the helm. Following a runner-up finish in the 2024 Celebration Bowl, the Bulldogs are rebuilding with their sights set on reclaiming the top spot in HBCU football. Jones, a 6’3″, 225-pound redshirt junior, arrives with high expectations, stepping into the shoes left by standout quarterback Eric Phoenix.

A Promising New Leader
Jones joins the Bulldogs after transferring from FIU, where he spent two seasons but did not see game action. Despite his limited collegiate experience, his high school career at Bradford High School in Starke, Florida, showcased his potential. As a senior, Jones threw for 2,287 yards and 19 touchdowns while adding 371 rushing yards and seven scores. His stellar performances earned him Florida 1A Player of the Year honors and school records for single-season and single-game passing yards.

Now, Jones has a chance to shine at one of the most respected programs in HBCU football. With a tradition built on strong defense and a physical style of play, South Carolina State provides the perfect stage for Jones to showcase his size, athleticism, and dual-threat capabilities.

Championship Aspirations
The Bulldogs, led by Head Coach Chinnis Berry, are laser-focused on returning to the Celebration Bowl and reclaiming their championship legacy. Jones is expected to play a pivotal role in that journey, with the pressure to lead this MEAC powerhouse back to the top.

This is a program with a storied history, and I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got,” Jones shared during a recent press conference.

The Bulldogs have long been a dominant force in HBCU football, and fans are eager to see if Jones can rise to the occasion and guide the team back to championship glory.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes in the HBCU football community will be on Amari Jones and the Bulldogs as they work to cement their place in history.
