WEDNESDAY PRACTICE: “Key Lions Injury Report Ahead of Divisional Round Sparks Fresh Concerns”

Live Update: Lions Release Practice Report Ahead of Divisional Round Clash

As the Detroit Lions gear up for Saturday night’s Divisional Round showdown against the Washington Commanders, their Wednesday practice report provides critical insights into player readiness. After securing a first-round bye, the Lions returned to action this week, holding a walkthrough on Tuesday and a full practice on Wednesday.

The extra week of rest has been especially beneficial for David Montgomery, who is recovering from an MCL injury in his right knee. Montgomery opted for rehab over surgery and is now set to share the backfield with Jahmyr Gibbs, who performed admirably as the lead rusher during Montgomery’s absence.

Lions’ Wednesday Practice Report

Here’s the latest update on player participation:

  • OT Taylor Decker (personal): NP
  • DL Pat O’Connor (calf): NP
  • CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring/illness): NP
  • OG Kevin Zeitler (hamstring): NP
  • CB Terrion Arnold (foot): FP
  • RB David Montgomery (knee): FP

Notable Updates

Taylor Decker

Decker missed practice for personal reasons. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press assured fans that there’s “nothing to worry about,” while Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit speculated that the absence could be related to Decker’s wife giving birth this month.

“Something to keep in mind until we hear about Decker’s absence: his wife’s due date for their son is in January,” Reisman tweeted.

Kevin Zeitler

Zeitler sustained a hamstring injury in the Week 18 game against the Vikings. While head coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism about Zeitler’s recovery before the bye, the guard has yet to return to full participation. On Wednesday, he was seen working on the sidelines with a trainer. If Zeitler isn’t ready to go, rookie Christian Mahogany could step in as the starting right guard.

Pat O’Connor

O’Connor also suffered an injury in Week 18, and his absence from Wednesday’s practice aligns with Campbell’s earlier cautious comments. Updates on O’Connor’s status may come Thursday.

Ennis Rakestraw

The cornerback, currently in his 21-day activation window from IR, missed Wednesday’s practice due to illness. His status will be worth monitoring as the week progresses.

Terrion Arnold

Arnold, dealing with a foot injury from the regular-season finale, was a full participant and appeared to be moving well during practice.

David Montgomery

The star running back declared himself ready to play earlier this week, and his full participation on both Tuesday and Wednesday confirms his availability for Saturday.

The Lions are shaping up well for this critical playoff matchup, and Thursday’s practice will offer further clarity on the availability of key players. Stay tuned for more updates as the Lions prepare for their playoff run.
