Trey Moore Announces Return to Texas Longhorns for Final Season
The Texas Longhorns have secured the return of one of their top defensive stars, edge rusher Trey Moore, who officially announced his decision to stay in Austin for his final year of eligibility through an Instagram post.
Moore, who was a marquee transfer addition for Texas last offseason, played a pivotal role for the Longhorns in 2024. After bypassing the NFL Draft and transfer portal earlier this month, his commitment solidifies one of the most dynamic pass-rushing units in college football.
A Dominant Presence on the Field
Moore made an immediate impact during his debut season with Texas, starting all 15 games and tallying impressive stats. He was one of only four Longhorn defenders to notch 10.5 or more tackles for loss, while his 6.5 sacks ranked third on the team. Moore also led the defense in forced turnovers, being the only player with multiple fumble recoveries and forced fumbles.
In Texas’ three postseason matchups — including the SEC Championship against Georgia, the College Football Playoff win over Clemson, and the quarterfinal victory against Arizona State — Moore recorded a total of nine tackles, further proving his value in high-pressure situations.
A Career of Excellence
Before transferring to Texas, Moore shined at UTSA, where he set single-season program records with 14 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in 2023. That same year, he was named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-AAC selection. Moore’s dominance also earned him three AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors as a redshirt sophomore.
From San Antonio to Austin
A standout at Smithson Valley High School in San Antonio, where he was named District 27-6A Defensive Player of the Year, Moore initially committed to UTSA before transferring to Texas in 2024. His decision to return to Austin for one final season adds another layer of depth and experience to the Longhorns’ formidable defensive unit.
With his elite ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks, force turnovers, and make game-changing plays, Trey Moore is set to be a cornerstone of the Texas defense in 2025 as the Longhorns aim for another championship run. Longhorn Nation can expect fireworks from Moore and the Texas pass rush this season.
