Texas Receives Major Transfer Portal News on Wednesday
Texas Continues to Reload: Longhorns Land Former Ohio State DL Hero Kanu
The Texas Longhorns are assembling a powerhouse roster under head coach Steve Sarkisian, and their latest addition could be a game-changer in the trenches.
Fresh off an impressive 13-3 debut season in the SEC, where they went 7-1 in conference play and reached the College Football Playoff semifinals, Texas is bolstering its defensive front with premier talent from the transfer portal.
On Wednesday, the Longhorns secured a commitment from former Ohio State defensive lineman Hero Kanu, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Kanu, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive lineman, didn’t see extensive playing time at Ohio State but was a highly sought-after prospect coming out of high school. Ranked No. 19 among defensive linemen and No. 129 overall in the 2022 class (247Sports Composite), he was courted by top programs like Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Alabama before initially choosing the Buckeyes.
During his time at Ohio State, Kanu saw action as a rotational player, logging 14 tackles and one sack. Now, he brings his size, strength, and untapped potential to Austin, where he’ll be coached by Kenny Baker, one of the best defensive line coaches in the country.
Texas has made it clear they are serious about dominating in the SEC, and adding a player with Kanu’s pedigree only strengthens their defensive front heading into 2025.
