LIVE RECRUITING UPDATE: Timberland OT Desmond Green Takes a Deeper Dive at South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Timberland offensive tackle Desmond Green made another trip to South Carolina last month for Junior Day, but this time, his visit had a different purpose. Unlike many first-time recruits getting their first glimpse of the Gamecocks’ program, Green was already familiar with the facilities. Instead, he and his family – including his parents and sister – came with a more focused agenda.
“We’d been there last year, so all that stuff they usually present we’d already seen,” Green explained. “They set up for us a chance to talk to the people who run the academics for the football program so we could ask questions about the business school since that’s what I plan to major in.”
Green wasn’t just looking at football; he wanted to understand what life at South Carolina would be like beyond the game. “Also, how they help student-athletes with things that’s more away from football. We were really there trying to figure out what is life like playing at South Carolina away from football.”
For Green, choosing a college isn’t just about the facilities or the game-day experience—it’s about the bigger picture. “Every school is going to have a good education, so it was really a matter of figuring out how South Carolina is going to help me from an education standpoint.”
With an emphasis on academics and player development off the field, South Carolina made a strong impression on Green and his family. Now, as the recruiting process continues, the Gamecocks’ ability to offer both football excellence and academic support could play a major role in his final decision. Stay tuned!
