Former Texas WR Johntay Cook Arrested in Texas on Multiple Charges
Texas – Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook has found himself in legal trouble after being arrested in Tarrant County, Texas on multiple charges.
According to official inmate records, Cook was taken into custody early Tuesday morning and has been charged with interfering with public duties and theft of property valued between $100-$750.
As of now, Cook remains in custody, and no bond amount has been set.
From Five-Star Prospect to Uncertain Future
Cook’s football journey has been filled with highs and lows. A former five-star recruit from DeSoto (TX) High School, he arrived at Texas in the 2023 recruiting class with high expectations under head coach Steve Sarkisian.
However, his time in Austin didn’t quite match the hype. As a true freshman, Cook recorded just 136 yards, and in 2024, he managed 137 yards and two touchdowns in six games before deciding to enter the transfer portal.
A Brief Stint at Washington Ends Abruptly
Following his departure from Texas, Cook initially committed to Washington, seemingly ready for a fresh start. However, his time with the Huskies was shockingly short-lived. Just days after arriving in Seattle, Cook and head coach Jedd Fisch reportedly had an in-person meeting, after which the two sides mutually parted ways.
What’s Next for Cook?
With his football career already in flux, this latest legal trouble only adds to the uncertainty surrounding Cook’s future. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to find another opportunity in college football or if this marks the end of his playing days.
