South Carolina State head coach Chennis Berry made a major splash on National Signing Day, officially announcing the addition of 16 new Bulldogs to the program.
“It’s a great day to be a Bulldog,” Berry said. “As a staff, we were very intentional about this 2025 signing class and finding the right fit of student-athlete for our culture.”
This year’s class is a balanced mix of talent, featuring eight high school standouts and eight players from the transfer portal. The group includes:
Three defensive backs
Three wide receivers
Three defensive linemen
Three offensive linemen
Two running backs
One quarterback
One placekicker
TOP TALENT EXCITED TO JOIN THE BULLDOGS
Among the incoming stars is West Florence (SC) receiver Terry “TJ” Lowery, who said Coach Berry’s leadership played a huge role in his decision.
“(Coach Berry) is one of the most prestigious coaches in the country,” Lowery said. “Watching his offense definitely caught my eye, and I was blown away by the atmosphere (on gameday).”
A versatile “hybrid receiver,” Lowery dominated his senior year, amassing 1,200 total yards and 12 touchdowns. Now, he’s eager to make an impact at SC State.
“The plan is to come in and get bigger, faster, and more physical,” he added. “SC State fans should know they’re getting a ‘dawg’ who is coming to work.”
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN JOSEPH ALLENDE INSPIRED BY BERRY
River Bluff (SC) offensive lineman Joseph Allende also made his commitment official, citing Berry’s influence beyond just football.
“(Coach Berry) has great energy, and I love the message he brings—not just about being the best football player but also about becoming a better all-around person,” Allende said.
Allende was a key part of a dominant rushing attack, helping River Bluff pile up 2,300 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024. Now, he’s ready to battle for a starting spot on the Bulldogs’ offensive line.
“I’m looking forward to competing for a spot,” he said.
TRANSFER QUARTERBACK AMARI JONES READY TO LEAD
One of the biggest transfers in this class is former Florida International University quarterback Amari Jones. In 2024, he appeared in five games, completing 7-of-12 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a rushing score.
Coach Berry emphasized that strong recruiting relationships helped land this talented class.
“Our coaching staff did an amazing job of building relationships,” Berry said. “We were able to sign a really good class that we feel super excited about as we prepare for the 2025 season.”
And the work isn’t done yet.
“This is only the beginning,” Berry added. “We’re excited to prepare for the 2025 season, but we’re not done yet.”
