“Unreal Talent”: NBA Draft Analyst Raves About Collin Murray-Boyles’ Potential

South Carolina’s Collin Murray-Boyles Drawing First-Round NBA Draft Buzz

COLUMBIA, S.C.Collin Murray-Boyles hasn’t made any official announcements about his future, but the South Carolina sophomore is generating serious first-round buzz for the 2025 NBA Draft. Many mock drafts and big boards already have the Columbia native pegged as a top-30 pick.

Elite Defensive Presence

NBA Draft analyst Sam Vecenie is one of many high on Murray-Boyles’ potential, particularly on the defensive end.

“[He] processes the game at such a high level, it’s obscene,” said Vecenie. “[He is] just an unbelievable defensive playmaker.”
Vecenie went even further, calling the Gamecock standout an “unbelievable defender.”

Despite being listed at 6-foot-8 (with some outlets marking him at 6-foot-7), Murray-Boyles is a force in the paint. He averages 1.6 blocks and 1.5 steals per game, often taking on the challenge of guarding opponents’ top scorers, whether on the perimeter or inside.

Offensive Growth and Playmaking Ability

While his defense is his calling card, Murray-Boyles is no slouch offensively. His strength and touch around the rim make him one of the best finishers in the SEC, leading the conference in field goal percentage among qualified players.

But it’s not just scoring—he’s also a strong passer, capable of facilitating from the high post or the block, making him an effective secondary or tertiary playmaker.

Rebounding Machine

On the boards, Murray-Boyles has been a dominant presence, ranking third in the SEC in rebounding this season. His impact has translated into seven double-doubles, showcasing his all-around game.

Draft Decision Looms

With only five regular-season games left, plus a potential SEC Tournament run, the Gamecocks’ season is winding down. But Murray-Boyles has time to make his draft decision. Underclassmen can declare as late as April 26, and even then, they can still withdraw by June 15 if they choose to return to school.

If he enters, Murray-Boyles could get a chance to boost his stock at the NBA Combine in May before making a final call.

The 2025 NBA Draft is set for June 25-26 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Will Murray-Boyles hear his name called in the first round? The buzz suggests he just might.
