“South Carolina Lands Five-Star Agot Makeer, Rockets Up Recruiting Rankings!”
South Carolina just made a massive splash in the 2025 recruiting cycle, securing a commitment from five-star wing Agot Makeer on Saturday. Makeer’s decision catapulted the Gamecocks’ class into the national spotlight, instantly boosting their standing in multiple rankings.
Elite Talent with International Experience
The 6-foot-1 wing brings a unique background to Columbia. Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Makeer was raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and competes internationally for Team Canada. She previously played at Crestwood Prep in Toronto before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida for her senior season.
Makeer is a consensus top-five prospect, ranked No. 4 overall in the On3 industry rankings and appearing among the top five recruits in every major scouting service.
Gamecocks’ Recruiting Class Soars in National Rankings
Makeer joins Ayla McDowell, another talented wing who signed with South Carolina in November, forming an impressive duo in the Gamecocks’ 2025 class. With Makeer’s commitment, South Carolina vaulted to No. 5 in ESPN’s team rankings, a dramatic jump from being previously unranked.
According to ESPN, Dawn Staley’s program is assembling a versatile and physically dominant roster:

“Dawn Staley and the three-time champion Gamecocks are adding some serious length and versatility to their wing/forward positions with the additions of Makeer and McDowell. Both can play multiple positions and will help stretch the floor for South Carolina, which is known for its dominant interior play and size.”
South Carolina also climbed to No. 5 in 24/7 Sports’ team rankings, solidifying its standing among the nation’s elite recruiting classes.
Aaliyah Chavez: The Last Domino to Fall?
With Makeer off the board, only one uncommitted top-100 prospect remains in the 2025 class—top-ranked Aaliyah Chavez. The highly coveted guard is set to announce her college decision on March 25, choosing between Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, and South Carolina. While the Gamecocks are considered a longshot, Dawn Staley has pulled off recruiting surprises before.
South Carolina’s 2025-26 Roster Takes Shape
With Makeer’s addition, South Carolina now projects to have between nine and 12 players on next season’s roster. The current lineup includes:
- Freshmen: Agot Makeer, Ayla McDowell
- Sophomores: Adhel Tac, Joyce Edwards, Maddy McDaniel
- Juniors: MiLaysia Fulwiley, Tessa Johnson
- Seniors: Chloe Kitts, Ashlyn Watkins
Additionally, Raven Johnson, Maryam Dauda, and Sakima Walker have remaining eligibility but are also WNBA Draft-eligible. While Watkins meets the draft’s age requirement, her recent injury likely keeps her in Columbia for another season.
With Makeer and McDowell in the mix and the potential for more roster movement, South Carolina is once again gearing up for championship contention under Dawn Staley.
