Esteemed Former South Carolina OC Embarks on Prestigious New Coaching Venture in the Local Ranks

Former Gamecocks OC GA Mangus Lands New Coaching Job at Brookland-Cayce

GA Mangus, once a key figure in South Carolina football, is taking his playbook to the high school level. Brookland-Cayce High School announced Thursday that Mangus will be joining their football staff as offensive coordinator.

Mangus makes the move from Hammond School, where he coached for two years, following a stint at Heathwood Hall. His extensive coaching resume includes time at Florida, Widener, Ursinus, Delaware Valley, Middle Tennessee State, South Carolina State, and Kutztown before his years in Columbia with the Gamecocks.

Mangus isn’t the only new addition at Brookland-Cayce. Former CA Johnson head coach Scotty Dean also joins the staff under new head coach Louis Clyburn, who himself is making a move from Camden Bulldogs to lead the Bearcats.

A Familiar Face in South Carolina Football

During his time with the Gamecocks, Mangus played a crucial role under Steve Spurrier, working as quarterbacks coach, tight ends coach, and eventually offensive coordinator.

He was instrumental in developing Connor Shaw, Stephen Garcia, and Dylan Thompson, helping shape some of the most successful offenses in South Carolina history. From 2010-2013, the Gamecocks thrived, winning the SEC East in 2010 and putting together three consecutive 11-win seasons from 2011 to 2013.

Now, Mangus looks to bring his experience and offensive expertise to Brookland-Cayce, aiming to make an impact at the high school level.
