Ole Miss women’s hoops signee Lauren Jacobs named South Carolina’s 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year

Lauren Jacobs, a standout point guard from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, South Carolina, has been named the state’s 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes not only her athletic excellence but also her academic achievements and exemplary character.

Athletic Excellence

Standing at 5-foot-9, Jacobs delivered an impressive senior season, averaging 25.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 steals, and 2.4 assists per game. Her leadership propelled the Highlanders to a 17-4 record and a berth in the SCISA Class 4A state semifinals. Throughout her high school career, Jacobs secured four state championships and earned the SCISA Player of the Year title twice. ESPN ranks her as the nation’s No. 83 recruit in the 2025 class.

Academic and Community Commitment

Beyond the court, Jacobs has demonstrated a strong commitment to her academics and community. She has been inducted into the National Honor Society and has actively volunteered with organizations such as Families Helping Families, the Kim’s Kids Foundation, and the Salvation Army.

Commitment to Ole Miss

In September 2024, Jacobs committed to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), choosing the Rebels over other prominent programs, including the University of South Carolina. Her decision was influenced by her official visit to Ole Miss, where she connected with head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the team’s vision.

Coach’s Perspective

Heathwood Hall coach Brionna Zimmerman praised Jacobs, stating, “Lauren is a fantastic athlete and an even better person. She is a strong student and has been accepted into the National Honor Society. She’s also led our team by example, both on and off the court.”

Looking Ahead

Jacobs is set to join an Ole Miss women’s basketball program that has shown significant progress under Coach McPhee-McCuin. The Rebels finished the 2024-25 season with a 19-9 record, including a 10-6 mark in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). With Jacobs’ addition, the team aims to build on this success in the upcoming seasons.

Jacobs’ arrival is highly anticipated, and her multifaceted contributions are expected to have a positive impact on the Rebels both on and off the court.
