Packers sign Kristian Welch, linebacker’s 2nd stint in Green Bay

Kristian Welch Returns to Green Bay—Packers Bolster Linebacker Depth!

The Green Bay Packers are bringing back a familiar face, signing linebacker Kristian Welch, who previously spent time with the team in 2023. The move was officially announced on Friday as the Packers continue to reinforce their defense ahead of the NFL Draft.

Welch’s Journey: A Well-Traveled Linebacker

At 26 years old, Welch has built a solid NFL resume. Last season, he split time between the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens, playing six games for Denver and nine for Baltimore. He even made one start for each team and recorded a fumble recovery with the Ravens.

But Green Bay isn’t new territory for Welch. He initially joined the Packers’ practice squad in 2023, later earning a spot on the active roster. That season, he appeared in 12 regular-season games and played in two playoff matchups. Though he didn’t take a defensive snap, he was a key contributor on special teams, participating in nearly half of the Packers’ special-teams plays and racking up six tackles.

Career Snapshot

Since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa, Welch has appeared in 72 regular-season games, logging 13 tackles on defense and 27 tackles on special teams. His professional career began with the Baltimore Ravens (2020-22) before making his first stint in Green Bay.

Packers Making Moves On and Off the Field

Alongside Welch’s signing, the Packers also announced a key front-office addition. Kevin Manara has been hired as the team’s general counsel, bringing experience from his previous roles with the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders.
