“Ex-South Carolina Star Makes Stunning Move to New Team Through Transfer Portal!”

Earlier this month, South Carolina women’s basketball saw veteran post player Sakima Walker enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the program. A key reserve on the Gamecocks’ 2023-2024 national championship squad, Walker officially revealed her next move on Saturday.

Sakima Walker announced she will finish her college basketball career playing for the Cal Golden Bears under head coach Charmin Smith for the 2025-2026 season.

During her two-year stint with South Carolina, Walker contributed 82 total points and 50 rebounds, playing a solid depth role off the bench.

Walker was notably the first of two Gamecocks to transfer out this offseason. Shortly after, rising star guard MiLaysia Fulwiley also entered the portal — and made headlines by signing with rival LSU earlier this week.

Meanwhile, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley quickly reloaded through the portal, landing two major additions: elite scoring guard Ta’Niya Latson — who led the nation in points per game this past season — and dominant 6-foot-6 center Madina Okot, transferring from Florida State and Mississippi State respectively.
