“Hit a Home Run”: Analyst Sounds Off on Kim Mulkey’s Blockbuster Transfer: “This Changes Everything”

MiLaysia Fulwiley is making headlines once again — this time as a new member of Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers. The dynamic guard is transferring to LSU after two impactful seasons with Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks, and many believe her arrival could be a game-changer for the defending SEC champions.

The buzz surrounding Fulwiley’s transfer is already shaking up women’s college basketball. Even LSU beat writer Tyler Harden praised the move, highlighting its importance for the Tigers’ national ambitions.

Mulkey and LSU’s staff hit a home run when they signed Fulwiley,” Harden wrote in The Reveille. “From an experience standpoint, talent standpoint and play style standpoint, adding Fulwiley is certainly a move that can keep LSU in the national spotlight — and a move that has certainly sent shockwaves across women’s college basketball.

MiLaysia Fulwiley originally committed to South Carolina in 2023 and quickly proved herself. In her freshman year, she averaged 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, playing a pivotal role in the Gamecocks’ undefeated national championship season.

She followed up with another strong year in her sophomore season, posting 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game as South Carolina returned to the national title game, ultimately falling to Geno Auriemma’s UConn.

Just days after that championship loss, Fulwiley entered the transfer portal — and last week, she made her commitment to LSU official.

Her addition comes as Kim Mulkey’s Tigers look to bounce back from back-to-back Elite Eight exits in the NCAA Tournament. In the 2025 March Madness run, LSU, a No. 3 seed, dominated early rounds with a 103–48 win over San Diego State and a 101–71 victory against Florida. They then pulled off an impressive Sweet 16 upset over No. 2 seed NC State, winning 80–73. However, their title hopes ended in a tough 72–65 loss to No. 1 seed UCLA.

Now, with a proven scorer and playmaker like MiLaysia Fulwiley on board, LSU is eyeing a deeper run — and potentially a national championship — in the upcoming season.
