“A Heart for the Game: Coach Jolette Boyer Reflects on Her Journey with South Carolina WBB on Her Birthday”
June 15, 2025 — Columbia, S.C.
Today, South Carolina Women’s Basketball is not just celebrating another day in the offseason — it’s celebrating the birthday of one of its most respected and beloved leaders: Assistant Coach Jolette Boyer.
Coach Boyer, who has become a cornerstone of the Gamecocks’ success both on and off the court, sat down for a recent interview where she reflected on her journey, her role within Dawn Staley’s powerhouse program, and what being part of the Gamecock family truly means.
“South Carolina is home.”
“It’s hard to explain it unless you’re in it,” Boyer said. “South Carolina is home. It’s a culture, a family, and a mission. Every day I wake up excited to pour into these young women — not just to make them better athletes, but to help them become strong, confident leaders.”

Boyer, who joined Coach Dawn Staley’s staff in 2021, has been instrumental in player development, particularly with the frontcourt. Her fingerprints are all over the growth of players like Kamilla Cardoso and Ashlyn Watkins, helping the Gamecocks maintain their elite defensive identity and championship mindset.
“She’s a technician, a motivator, and she brings a level of calm and toughness our players feed off,” Staley once said of Boyer.
Championship Culture and Beyond
During her tenure, South Carolina has remained one of the most dominant forces in women’s college basketball — with Final Four appearances, SEC titles, and a national championship all within reach or already in the trophy case.
“Being part of this culture means embracing excellence in every detail,” Boyer shared. “Whether it’s game planning, recruiting, or just being present for our players, we hold each other accountable. The results speak for themselves.”
She also credited Coach Staley’s leadership as a transformative experience. “Dawn sets the tone — she’s authentic, fearless, and empowering. That filters down to every coach and player in the program.”
Mentorship and Meaning
While Boyer’s basketball IQ is undeniable, it’s her mentorship that stands out most to players.
“She’s more than a coach,” said one South Carolina player. “She sees the full picture — your future, your worth beyond the game. She’s honest, real, and always has your back.”
As she celebrated another year around the sun, Boyer humbly redirected attention to her team and the program she helps shape.
“I’m just grateful,” she said. “Grateful for Dawn, for the staff, and for these players who trust us to guide them. It’s bigger than basketball — and that’s what makes it special.”
Looking Ahead
With another highly touted recruiting class coming in and expectations as high as ever, Boyer’s steady hand and heart-driven coaching style will be as vital as ever.
“Whatever comes next,” she said, “I just want to keep building something these women will carry with them long after the final buzzer.”
Happy Birthday, Coach Boyer!
From Gamecock Nation to you — thank you for your leadership, passion, and dedication to excellence.
