Dawn Staley Shouts Out Former Gamecocks Aliyah Boston and Kamilla Cardoso After WNBA Career Nights

Dawn Staley, the legendary South Carolina women’s basketball coach, continues to be her players’ biggest fan—even after they’ve moved on to professional careers in the WNBA. On June 25, Staley took to social media to celebrate Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever and Kamilla Cardoso of the Chicago Sky after both had career-high performances the night before.

Am good peeps!” Staley wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “And good morning to @aa_boston and @Kamillascsilva for having career nights last night! @WNBA + @GamecockWBB

One fan responded to her tweet saying,

You produce the best coach!

A Big Night for Boston and Cardoso

On June 24, Aliyah Boston, the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year, put on a show in the Fever’s 94-86 win over the Seattle Storm, dropping a career-high 31 points, along with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. The Indiana Fever celebrated her dominance with a dedicated Instagram post.

Meanwhile, Kamilla Cardoso also had a breakout night in the Sky’s 97-86 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, pouring in a career-best 27 points before heading off to represent Team Brazil at the FIBA AmeriCup beginning June 28. Cardoso, who won two national titles under Staley at South Carolina, will miss Chicago’s next three games while competing internationally.

The WNBA recognized Cardoso’s performance with a “Top Performer” tribute on their Instagram Story.

Staley’s Words of Praise

True to form, Coach Staley made sure her players knew she was watching—and cheering them on:

@Kamillascsilva with the career high 27th!! Keep stacking Kmill! Don’t look back! This is your standard!!!” she tweeted about Cardoso.

And for Boston:

@aa_boston with the rim run easy bucket! Get buckets AB get buckets!!

With her former stars flourishing on the pro stage, it’s clear that Staley’s influence doesn’t end when her players graduate—it continues as they make their mark in the WNBA.
