Tough Break: Bree Hall Waived by Golden State Valkyries Just Weeks After Signing

Bree Hall Waived by Golden State Valkyries After Brief WNBA Stint

Former South Carolina Gamecocks star Bree Hall has been waived by the Golden State Valkyries, just two weeks after signing with the league’s newest WNBA franchise. Hall joined the Valkyries on June 18 to add depth while several players were away at EuroBasket, but with those players returning, roster adjustments became necessary—and Hall was among the cuts.

Despite the short stint, Hall made the most of her opportunity. She appeared in two games, scoring her first official WNBA points in her debut. Her second outing was particularly meaningful, as she took the court in front of her former college coach, Dawn Staley, who was in attendance.

Known as “Big Shot Breezy” during her time at South Carolina, Hall earned her reputation with clutch shooting and stellar defense. She played a key role in leading the Gamecocks to two national championships and four straight Final Four appearances, including starting on the undefeated 2024 title team.

Hall was drafted 20th overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2025 WNBA Draft, but she was waived after just one preseason game, where she impressed with nine points against Brazil’s national team.

Her release from Golden State marks the second Gamecock cut on Monday, following Tiffany Mitchell’s departure from the Las Vegas Aces after the team made room for NaLyssa Smith in a recent trade.

While Hall’s WNBA journey has hit early obstacles, her proven college pedigree and potential mean Gamecock Nation will continue cheering her on as she looks for her next opportunity in the league.
