A’ja Wilson Injures Wrist vs. Liberty, Ruled Out at Halftime Ahead of WNBA All-Star Game

A’ja Wilson Exits Game with Wrist Injury, Status Uncertain Moving Forward

Reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson suffered a right wrist injury during the Las Vegas Aces’ clash with the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, forcing her out of the game at halftime.

The injury occurred midway through the second quarter as Wilson attacked the rim. After going up for a layup, she landed hard on her right wrist, immediately grabbing at her arm while lying on the court in visible discomfort. Teammates quickly surrounded her as medical staff attended to her. Although she was able to get up and briefly continue playing, Wilson exited for the locker room just before the end of the first half.

During halftime, the Aces announced that Wilson would not return for the remainder of the game. At the time of her exit, she had recorded two points—all from free throws—across 14 minutes of play. She later rejoined the team on the bench during the third quarter with a wrap on her wrist, but did not check back into the game.

This isn’t the first time Wilson has been sidelined this season. The superstar forward previously missed three games while in concussion protocol, during which the Aces managed a 2-1 record.

Wilson’s potential absence raises concern for Las Vegas, who lean heavily on her both offensively and defensively. So far this season, she’s been a dominant force, averaging 21.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and a league-leading 2.6 blocks per game.

The Aces have not yet provided an update on the severity of Wilson’s injury or whether she will miss any upcoming games. With the WNBA All-Star Game approaching on July 19 in Indianapolis—where Wilson was selected as a starter—fans and teammates alike will be anxiously awaiting more news.

Wilson’s injury could have major implications not just for the Aces’ playoff positioning, but also for the league’s marquee All-Star event.
