“Back for More! Can Anyone Stop Her? Gamecock Great Allisha Gray Returns to Defend Her All-Star Titles!”

Allisha Gray Set to Defend Dual Titles at WNBA All-Star Weekend

Allisha Gray is back—and she’s coming for another sweep. The South Carolina women’s basketball alum and Atlanta Dream MVP candidate will compete in both the 3-point contest and the skills challenge during the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend, the league announced on Tuesday.

Gray made history last year by becoming the first player ever to win both competitions in the same All-Star Weekend. While stars like Sabrina Ionescu and Becky Hammon have claimed titles in both events before, none pulled off the rare double victory in a single weekend. Even South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley won both contests during her playing days—but in different years, and under a different skills challenge format.

In 2024, Gray triumphed over Jonquel Jones of the New York Liberty in the 3-point shootout and defeated Sophie Cunningham, then with the Phoenix Mercury, in the finals of the skills challenge. This year, she’s back to defend both crowns and make even more WNBA history.

Stacked Competition Awaits

The competition will be fierce.

In the 3-point contest, Gray will face off against:

  • Sabrina Ionescu (New York Liberty)
  • Caitlin Clark (Indiana Fever)
  • Kelsey Plum (Los Angeles Sparks)
  • Sonia Citron (Washington Mystics)

For the skills challenge, her opponents include:

  • Natasha Cloud (New York Liberty)
  • Skylar Diggins and Erica Wheeler (Seattle Storm)
  • Courtney Williams (Minnesota Lynx)

Gray is aiming to become only the second player ever to win the 3-point contest more than once, and the first to repeat as skills challenge champion.

All Eyes on Friday Night

Both events will air live on ESPN on Friday, July 18, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Then, on Saturday, July 19, Gray will join fellow former Gamecock stars A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston in the WNBA All-Star Game.

Gray is set to play on a team captained by Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, while Wilson and Boston will join Team Caitlin Clark, led by the Indiana Fever rookie. All three South Carolina legends will start in the highly anticipated matchup.

From national championships under Staley to WNBA stardom, the Gamecock legacy continues to shine bright—and Allisha Gray is leading the charge once again.
