Aliyah Boston Honored With ‘Aliyah Boston Day’ During Emotional Homecoming in Boston
Former South Carolina Gamecock and current WNBA star Aliyah Boston received a hero’s welcome during her recent trip to Boston, Massachusetts, where she was honored with her own day in the city she considers home.
During a special ceremony held at the Massachusetts Statehouse, officials declared July 14 as “Aliyah Boston Day”, recognizing the Indiana Fever standout for the “pride, power, and purpose you bring to the Commonwealth.” The moment was a deeply meaningful tribute to Boston, who spent her formative basketball years in the area.

Although she was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Boston moved to the Boston region as a teenager to live with her aunt and focus on her basketball dreams. She quickly made her mark at Worcester Academy, where she earned the title of Gatorade State Player of the Year three times, solidifying her status as a rising star.
This week’s celebration coincided with the Indiana Fever’s game against the Connecticut Sun at TD Garden in Boston — part of a two-year tradition where the Sun host a regular season matchup in the city. Boston made the most of the occasion, scoring 11 points, grabbing six rebounds, and dishing out four assists to help lead the Fever to an 85–77 victory on Tuesday night.
But Boston’s connection to the city goes beyond basketball.
On Monday, she announced she’s officially joining the ownership group of Boston Legacy FC, an expansion team set to join the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2026. The team will become the 15th franchise in the league.

“I’m proud to join the ownership group of the Boston Legacy,” Boston shared in a statement. “This city helped raise me, and the support I felt here shaped so much of who I am. I couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to invest into a franchise that’s building something special—for its players, for the city, and for women’s sports as a whole. And yes… Boston repping Boston just felt right!”
The heartfelt homecoming highlighted both Boston’s on-court talent and her growing influence as a leader in women’s sports and community investment. From dominating in the paint to now investing in the next generation of athletes, Aliyah Boston’s legacy in Boston is only just beginning.
