Urban Meyer Just Named the Most Underrated Stadium in College Football — And It’s Not What You’d Expect!

Urban Meyer has seen it all—from the deafening roars of the Swamp to the hostile chaos of Death Valley and the Big House. The three-time national champion knows exactly what it’s like to coach in college football’s most intimidating environments. So when Meyer recently weighed in on underrated stadiums, he didn’t hesitate to crown South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium as the most overlooked gem in the country.

On a recent episode of The Triple Option Podcast, Meyer joined co-host Mark Ingram to discuss the South Carolina Gamecocks’ 2025 preseason win total, which BetMGM set at 7.5. Ingram made his stance clear: he’s taking the over—and for one big reason.

“I’ve got them going over 7.5 because of LaNorris Sellers,” Ingram said, referencing South Carolina’s rising sophomore quarterback.

Meyer echoed that optimism, applauding both Sellers’ potential and the culture head coach Shane Beamer has built in Columbia. But Meyer’s real praise was saved for the raucous energy inside Williams-Brice Stadium.

“I like their coach, and I think it’s the most underrated place in college football to play,” Meyer said. “That stadium, wow. Williams-Brice.”

Ingram, a former Alabama standout, backed up that sentiment with a painful flashback for Crimson Tide fans—the 2010 showdown in Columbia, when then-No. 1 Alabama fell to South Carolina in a stunning upset.

“It is tough to play there. That’s why you said Alabama at South Carolina. I was No. 1 in the country, went to South Carolina and we got ambushed,” Ingram said. “That is not an easy place to play.”

Looking ahead to 2025, the Gamecocks have plenty of pieces in place to make noise. Sellers is set to lead the offense, and defensive standout Dylan Stewart is expected to be a breakout force. With a dynamic roster and the kind of home-field advantage that’s earned respect from college football legends, South Carolina is being picked as a potential sleeper team in the SEC.

The Gamecocks’ schedule will be far from a cakewalk, but with talent, momentum, and Williams-Brice’s signature electricity, don’t be shocked if Shane Beamer’s squad exceeds expectations this fall.
