“LaNorris Sellers Blows Mind of Gamecock fans with humble response to Urban Meyer and Mark Ingram’s Interview “

National Buzz Grows Around South Carolina Football and QB LaNorris Sellers

The offseason hype around Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football program continues to build—and now it’s getting attention from some of the biggest names in the sport. On a recent episode of The Triple Option podcast, three-time national championship coach Urban Meyer and Heisman winner Mark Ingram gave the Gamecocks and quarterback LaNorris Sellers high praise.

The podcast kicked off with a recorded interview between Sellers, Ingram, and host Rob Stone. In it, Sellers remained humble, saying the Gamecocks are “not focused on [the hype] too much.” Instead, he emphasized the team’s drive to get better: “We’ve just got to keep it up, bring it again this season.” When asked about the College Football Playoff, Sellers confidently said it’s “definitely” a realistic goal.

Individually, the rising sophomore said he’s been working hard this offseason on the fundamentals. “Anticipation, footwork, and all that, I’m just building off of the mistakes from last year, trying to fix them so that I can be better at them for this year,” he explained.

Ingram also highlighted an eye-catching stat: Sellers joined elite company—Jalen Hurts and Johnny Manziel—as only the third freshman ever to throw for 2,500 yards and rush for 500 yards.

After the interview, Meyer, Ingram, and Stone dove into a South Carolina season preview. All three expressed optimism about the Gamecocks’ 2025 potential, predicting an 8-4 or 9-3 finish.

“If you stick South Carolina in another conference, they’d be pushing double-digit wins more often. They’re just stuck in a [tough] conference,” Meyer noted.

Ingram agreed and took the over on USC’s projected win total of 7.5, citing Sellers as the difference-maker. “I’ve got them going over because of LaNorris Sellers.”

While Ingram remains loyal to his alma mater, Alabama, he admitted that South Carolina is no easy matchup—especially at home. “It’s at South Carolina! That’s a tricky place to play…I was No. 1 in the country, went to South Carolina, got ambushed.”

Meyer echoed that sentiment, saying, “Mark, I’ll say this: I like their coach. And I think it’s the most underrated place in college football to play. That stadium? Wow. Williams-Brice…I’m telling you, that is one of the great places to go. Well, not as an opposing coach because I used to hate going there. Great fans, great stadium.”
