Greg McElroy Break silence, ACCLAIMS LaNorris Seller’s CONFIDENCE, and gives Shane Beamer his flowers ahead of 2025 season”

Shane Beamer Eyes Heisman Run and National Relevance Behind Breakout Star LaNorris Sellers

As Shane Beamer gears up for his fifth season leading South Carolina football, expectations are sky-high following a surprising 9-4 campaign in 2024. With sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers at the helm, the Gamecocks are hoping to take another major step forward—and possibly make a serious run at the College Football Playoff in 2025.

Sellers, who impressed as a true freshman, is already generating early Heisman buzz thanks to his rapid development and big-time performances under pressure. College football analyst Greg McElroy believes the rising star could elevate the entire South Carolina program.

“I love what South Carolina was able to do down the stretch last year,” McElroy said on his ESPN podcast Monday. “I love the growth and development that we saw from LeNorris Sellers from year one throughout that campaign. The guy he was in Week 1 compared to the guy he was playing against Clemson—night and day difference.”

McElroy emphasized how Sellers’ confidence visibly grew week by week and praised his increasing accuracy and playmaking instincts.

“You could tell the confidence was rising on a week-to-week basis. You could tell the accuracy was getting better… Last year it was just flat-out playmaking ability. And at times, he had to do it kind of on his own. The receivers last year were a bit of a question mark,” McElroy explained. “They were a little up and down. They had guys in and out of the lineup.”

But that situation could be changing fast. McElroy noted the Gamecocks’ wide receiver corps has matured, and that added experience could make all the difference in 2025.

“They had guys that were inconsistent catching the football. There were guys that were inconsistent with their route depths and things like that,” he said. “Now that group should be another year older, another year more developed.”

Offensively, South Carolina looks more polished and explosive heading into the new season, with Sellers firmly established as the centerpiece of the attack. The combination of his dual-threat capabilities and a more seasoned receiving group could make the Gamecocks a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Still, the road to glory won’t be easy.

The back half of South Carolina’s 2025 schedule is packed with heavyweights. After opening with manageable matchups, the Gamecocks will travel to face LSU in Week 6, then host Oklahoma and Alabama in back-to-back showdowns. The gauntlet continues with Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and a high-stakes rivalry finale against Clemson.

Even so, expectations are high—and for good reason. With Sellers poised to become one of the nation’s top quarterbacks and Beamer continuing to build momentum, the Gamecocks are no longer just hoping to compete—they’re aiming to win big.

A 10-win season? A Heisman contender? A playoff berth? All three could be on the table in Columbia this fall.
