South Carolina Ranked No. 13 in 2025 USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll
Fall camp is officially underway across the college football landscape, and in South Carolina, the cool, crisp weather is already giving fans a taste of football season. With kickoff just around the corner, preseason rankings are rolling in—and South Carolina football is getting plenty of attention.

On Monday, the USA Today Coaches Poll revealed its official 2025 preseason rankings, with South Carolina landing at No. 13 in the nation. The poll, compiled from votes by 67 active college football head coaches, highlights the growing national respect for Shane Beamer’s program.
Here’s a look at the Top 25:
- Texas (28 first-place votes)
- Ohio State (20)
- Penn State (14)
- Georgia (3)
- Notre Dame
- Clemson (2)
- Oregon
- Alabama
- LSU
- Miami
- Arizona State
- Illinois
13. South Carolina - Michigan
- Ole Miss
- SMU
- Florida
- Tennessee
- Indiana
- Kansas State
T-21. Texas A&M
T-21. Iowa State - BYU
- Texas Tech
- Boise State
Several other programs received votes, including Oklahoma, Missouri, USC, Utah, Auburn, Florida State, and many others.
The Gamecocks’ strong showing in the coaches poll stands in contrast to the views of veteran reporter Brett McMurphy, who notably excluded South Carolina from his AP Top 25 preseason ballot. The official Associated Press rankings are expected to be released next week.

Still, most preseason projections have favored South Carolina’s upward trajectory, generally placing them between No. 12 and No. 18, with a few bold predictions even slotting the Gamecocks as a dark horse for the College Football Playoff.
As fall practices heat up, all eyes are on Shane Beamer’s squad to see if they can live up to the growing hype.
